The "Quiet Zone" is Almost Complete...

The anxiously anticipated "Quiet Zone" is nearing it's completion! With the final construction process nearing an end, there's just a few items left and the train horn will be no more!

Here is an update on the "Quiet Zone" timeline:

The final median construction work on 15th Street is just about completed. Once the appropriate signage is placed by the City of Portland, the city work will be complete. An inspection by the Oregon Department of Transportation will be performed for final approval. If all goes smoothly, a "Notice of Establishment" letter will be submitted to the Federal Railway shortly there after, to notify all parties of the Quiet Zone. There is a 21-day period where the conductors are informed of the new Quiet Zone and after that, the horns will no longer be blown (except in an emergency situation).

Tentatively, August 2010 is the anticipated completion date. However, it may be sooner....check back for further Quiet Zone updates.
